Yering Station

Yering Station

The Rathbone Wine Group purchased Yering Station in 1996. Originally a cattle station, the Scottish-born Ryrie brothers purchased the property of 43,000 acres in 1838 and maintained its Aboriginal name 'Yering'. From the vines they planted, Victoria's first vineyard was established. When the brothers returned to Sydney in the 1950s the property was sold to Paul de Castella who extended the vineyards by planting French varieties still grown on the property today. Led by Chief Winemaker William (Willy) Lunn, Yering Station practices sustainable viticulture and winemaking to ensure high quality grapes go into every wine he produces. Just after high school, Lunn entered the wine trade under Brian Croser of Petaluma fame. He then headed on to work at Shaw and Smith in the Adelaide Hills before travelling to the US for a role at Argyle Winery in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Willy joined Yering Station in 2008 with over 25 years of experience in cool-climate winemaking.
