An exceptional 'Second' wine from Victorian producer Yabby Lake. Winemaker Tom Carson was crowned 'International Winemaker of the Year' at the 2004 International Wine and Spirit Competition in London. Tom Carson also holds several wine judging roles including his current post as Chairman of the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards. Previously, Tom was the youngest Chairman to preside at The National Wine Show in Canberra, and over the years he has judged at a number of capital city and regional shows, and sat on the Qantas Wine Panel from 2004 until 2015. The fruit for the Red Claw was hand harvested and pressed in small batches before it was left to settle overnight. French oak barrels (500 litre puncheons) were used for fermentation (no malolactic). All natural ferments. The wine was aged on yeast lees for 10 months, and bottled in December 2017. Bright intense pale straw colour. The bouquet has citrus notes, stone fruit and a subtle hint of spicy French oak. The palate has a lovely rounded texture, but with focused acidity and lovely balance. The finish is long and persistent.
