An exceptional 'Second' wine from Victorian producer Yabby Lake. Winemaker Tom Carson was crowned 'International Winemaker of the Year' at the 2004 International Wine and Spirit Competition in London. Tom Carson also holds several wine judging roles including his current post as Chairman of the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards. Previously, Tom was the youngest Chairman to preside at The National Wine Show in Canberra, and over the years he has judged at a number of capital city and regional shows, and sat on the Qantas Wine Panel from 2004 until 2015. Red Claw wines are hand crafted with fruit from Yabby Lake’s own vineyards. The wines are made following the same principles that guide the single vineyard wines. With Red Claw the emphasis is on making wines that are bright, juicy and more expressive when young – lending them perfectly to the Australian lifestyle and the way we like to dine. Perfumed, fragrant aromas are dominated by cherry and dark berry fruits complemented by a touch of spice and underlying French oak. The long, silky palate has a lovely elegance and velvety texture, with concentrated red fruit flavours and a finely poised finish.

Whole bunch ferments and matured in used French puncheons. If there’s a better value entry pinot noir I haven’t met up with it. An utterly delicious tapestry of red and purple fruits sewn through a fine web of tannins, the finish long and convincing. Drink to: 2029
