55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Malbec, 15% Merlot, and 14% Petit Verdot. Gold (96 points) at the Margaret River Wine Show; one of the most competitive shows in the country. Woodlands believe 2016 will go down as one of if not the greatest vintages in history! The colour is a bright crimson. Quite charming and subtle, the nose gives the impression of salinity, with aromas of clove, cocoa, blood orange and touches of river silt sitting over dark fruits. The elegant palate mirrors the nose, with ripe reds fruits sitting over an acid backbone, creating a lovely mix of floral elements and fruits. The wine lingers with some lively acidity.

Drink 2018 to 2033 , 13.5% ,very deep, dark purple/red colour. The bouquet is fresh and bright, fruity and cabernet-herbal, with violet high notes. The palate is intense, refined and elegant, understated but quietly powerful. There is freshness and intensity here, too. Delicious wine, beautifully balanced and elegant. (55% cabernet sauvignon, 16% malbec, 15% merlot, 14% petit verdot, all Wilyabrup Valley)

Before you ask, NO, there is no 2015 Woodlands Margaret here yet. But we do have this. Oh my darling, oh my darling… Dense and brooding, with plenty of high quality toasty/pencilly oak, black fruits, some marker pen lift, spice and dried herb perfume. Full bodied, lavish tannin, charred and tightly packed, distinct mineral feel here, red and black fruit pushing through on a long and inky finish. Bordeaux coursing through its veins, but with the personality of Margaret. It’s a much better wine than the 2015, for me, and deserves a good spell in the cellar.
