The wines are aged in an average of 20% new, French oak barrels for 12 to 14 months before bottling. Chateau Ferrande can be enjoyed on the young side with decanting. Château Haut-Brion is the oldest of Bordeaux's five first growths, and one of the most famous wines in the world. Located in Pessac-Léognan, south of the city of Bordeaux, the château is rather far removed from its counterparts, all of which are found in the Médoc.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of the most significant second growths in Pauillac, Bordeaux. It neighbors first-growth powerhouse, Château Latour, with whom the estate shares a similar terroir and climate. Usually Sauvignon Blanc-dominant, with around 5% each of Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris. The wine is fermented and aged in barrel, on its lees for a year. 50% of barrels are new in both stages.

Domaine de Chevalier, classified Grand Cru Classé de Graves, is one of the most important wine estates in Pessac-Leognan. It makes both a red and a white grand vin: the former is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend, and the latter a classic white Bordeaux Blend.

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is an estate in the Pessac-Léognan appellation in the northern Graves, a few miles southwest of Bordeaux's city center. Its near-neighbor and sister estate Château Haut-Brion was the only estate from the region featured in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, but La Mission Haut-Brion (rated a Graves Grand Cru in the 1959 rankings) is often judged and priced as the equal of Haut-Brion and the other first growths.
