Editors notes
Clare Valley riesling from the Watervale sub-region. Koerner G6 Block. Reserve. Such an interesting riesling. So much body and such good intensity.
- Campbell Mattinson
Over half a century's worth of experience has given John Vickery an understanding of Riesling grapes that is un-matched. It is this knowledge, combined with his reputation for extraordinary attention to detail, that has produced Australia's finest Rieslings.
Floral aromas of lemon and orange blossom. Palate is appealing in a uncomplicated way. Filled with lime leaf, lemon, gravel, wet slate and orange blossom.
Great to have with family and friends and wood fired pizza.

96"The Koerner G6 Block stood out when the time came to bottle the main release, so this small parcel was retained and released separately. Add another 3+ years and you’ll have something to celebrate for your wisdom."

94"Clare Valley riesling from the Watervale sub-region. Koerner G6 Block. Reserve. Such an interesting riesling. So much body and such good intensity. It’s textural too. It tastes of lime leaf, lemon, gravel, wet slate and orange blossom. I thought it was going to be sweet but then it wasn’t; it’s just the body of it, the way it balloons in the mouth. It’s well worth tracking down. It will age but personally I would drink it young. I’m tossing up 93/94 but opted higher on the grounds of personality and intensity, if not for out-and-out length."

Australia
Australia's wine industry is a thriving part of the country's economy, contributing significantly to employment, production, export, and tourism. In fact, the industry is the fourth-largest wine exporter in the world, shipping out 760 million liters of wine to countries including France, Italy, Spain, and the UK. One of the key factors contributing to Australia's success as a "New World" wine producer is the formal export and marketing of its wines through Wine Australia.
Australia's wine regions are scattered across the south and southeast, with almost every state boasting its own vineyards. Victoria, for example, is home to an impressive 21 wine regions. Some of the most famous wine regions in Australia include Margaret River, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Eden Valley, Clare Valley, Hunter Valley, Yarra Valley, and local regions to New South Wales such as Cowra, Southern Highlands, and Mudgee.
Australian winemakers are known for producing a diverse range of grape varieties, with Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir being among the most popular. They tend to focus on producing wines that are ripe, fruit-forward, and easy to drink, using modern winemaking techniques and equipment such as stainless steel tanks and temperature-controlled fermentation.
With its bold, fruit-driven flavors and reputation for quality and diversity, Australian wine has become a popular choice for wine lovers around the world. And with such a broad range of wine regions and grape varieties, there's something for every palate to enjoy.
South Australia
If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the country's vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.
Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!
Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
Clare Valley
Situated in the Mid North of South Australia, approximately 120 km north of Adelaide is one of Australia's oldest wine regions the Clare Valley. The area is broken up into three sub-regions, the Polish Hill River region to the east, the Central Clare Valley, and the Skillogalee Valley to the west.
Often associated with some of Australia's finest Riesling the cool climate and differing terroirs have paved the way for exciting and diverse wines over a plethora of varietals resulting in wines of pure expression and great length. Home to some of Australia's most iconic wineries - cult producers like Wendouree, to Australian icons such as Kilikanoon and boutique producers like Atlas, the Clare Valley is definitely an area to keep an eye on for exciting and ever-evolving wines.
About the brand Vickery Wines
Vickery Wines is the culmination of John Vickery's half-century of winemaking experience. Partnered with his wine team, they are able to create Rieslings that showcase John's extensive expertise with the most noble of white wine varieties.
It begins in the regions where John made his mark. Eden Valley in the Barossa and Watervale in the Clare Valley. It goes further into the sub-districts of these regions that John knows intimately, and partnering with growers who have the right vineyards in the right locations to produce the best possible fruit. Once fruit is picked at optimum ripeness, Keeda and John employ the winemaking techniques that he has refined and perfected over time, to craft Rieslings that carry his signature style and fastidious quality standards.
The Vickery label is in effect, a time capsule for John's wealth of winemaking knowledge. It allows his experience and winemaking techniques to be used without compromise, and then passed on to current and future generations of Riesling winemakers.
