Takes inspiration from the lauded reds France's Pauillac. 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec. On the nose sweet red and black fruits abound; red and black plum, ripe redcurrant and tart black cherry. Balancing the fruit are elements of pencil lead, pen ink, powdered mushroom, fresh cut herbs and menthol. These notes are all framed with oak elements of powdered cocoa, toast, clove and nutmeg. A subtle, earthy component of freshly turned topsoil underscores the finish. Inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux, Founder Jess Jackson collaborated with Vigneron Pierre Seillan to create three distinctive blends - La Muse, La Joie and Le Desir. Each wine represents an expression of the diversity of Sonoma County. La Muse is a Merlot-based blend that captures elegance and grace. La Joie, comprised primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, is powerful and bold. Le Desir represents Cabernet Franc and its many intricacies, nuances and depth.

Bright redcurrant and dried herbs, craisins, blueberry. Medium bodied, sticky tannin, a fresh and lively thing, all red fruits and provençal herbs, slick of tannin, dry on the finish. Kind of pushy, but very interesting. Should age well. Good to drink too.

Verite's 2011 La Joie is a dark, brooding wine bursting with energy and intensity. Naturally, the 2011 is cool, inward and shut down as so many wines are in this vintage, but at the same time, it has tons of vibrancy. An exotic mélange of blue/black fruits, graphite, pencil shavings, smoke and incense take shape in the glass. The 2011 La Joie is pretty much in line stylistically with other vintages, but it is just small-scaled, in keeping with the personality of the year. The blend is 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec. - 93-95 points
