2017 was an exceptional vintage in the Hunter Valley. Adjacent to Chris and Tegan Tyrrell’s house, named Mother’s after Murray Tyrrell’s mother who lived there. Replanted in 2010 with cuttings from 4 Acres, Johnno’s and Old Patch. After stainless steel fermentation the wine was matured in a single three-year-old French oak cask (2700L) for 15 months. "Cranberry juice, raspberry, some earth and spice, tannins pull a little sandy, and there’s a touch of warmth, perhaps a light on the finish and mid-palate, but the flavours are so lovely, and that dried herb/earth in the aftertaste is compelling. Has a gentle charm and makes for a good drink now, perhaps while you’re waiting for some of the other wines to come around?" - Gary Walsh

This vineyard was planted in '00 with cuttings from three of Tyrrell's oldest and most treasured vineyards with the aim of creating a source that could be accessed whenever new vines are needed. The exceptionally dry, warm harvest season was trouble-free, the wine a beautifully balanced, medium-bodied shiraz.

This vineyard was planted from cuttings taken from the Old Patch, 4 Acres and Johnno’s vine-yards, 1/3 each. Deep, vibrant colour; rich, ripe spice and black fruit aromas; deep flavour, full-ish body, plush and supple in texture.”

A new wine for Tyrrell’s, the block being just outside Chris Tyrrell’s house. One foudre total production. Wrong bottle image, but close enough. Private Bin price is $27. Cranberry juice, raspberry, some earth and spice, tannins pull a little sandy, and there’s a touch of warmth, perhaps a light on the finish and mid-palate, but the flavours are so lovely, and that dried herb/earth in the aftertaste is compelling.
