Tuesday Tutorials: Art of Blending - 4 August 2020 6.30pm

Event Date: Aug 4, 2020

Registration End Date: Aug 4, 2020

HANDS ON TASTING! This month, we'll discuss the art of blending. Throughout the history of wine, grapes have been blended for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's a finance issue, other times the blend is significantly better than each individual part. We'll take you back to the origins of blending wine in Georgia where they blend several hundred varieties together! We'll talk about the often controversial blending of red & white grapes, & go into the concept of 'less is more'. We'll be having a bit of fun blending our own wines to see what a difference blending can make, & that sometimes blending wine can be the most difficult (& important!) part of winemaking. It's back! Due to popular demand, 2020 sees the return of Tuesday Tutorial series of wine events. Through 2019 we shared stories & learnt so much about how wine is made & why it tastes like it does, & we're looking forward to making 2020 even bigger & better. So, join us for the first Tuesday of the month for Tuesday Tutorials- Come & join us for a drink!

95% Mataro, 5% Grenache. The nose is dark and ripe, unveiling with time aromas of dark berry fruit, blueberry, kirsch and mince pie spice. The palate is supple and intense with liquorice and dark fruit flavours wrapped in savoury spice and framed by fine tannins. The opulent fruit is balanced well by stalky whole bunch complexity and beautifully fine tannins. Delicious already, though should improve with time. Sourced from the Marschall vineyard, an eighty year old organic and dry-grown vineyard, planted on its own rootstocks to clones unknown, in the Vine Vale district. The loose sandy soils reflect sunlight in a similar way to the Rhone’s pebbled vineyards and are well suited to Mataro.

“The Chilean volcanic terroir is nothing but dynamic. Many of our vineyards are located on mature volcanic – igneous regions, where soils are a result of the weathering processes that have occurred over millions of years. However, we also have vines growing on modern volcanic ash deposits emitted directly from volcanoes that we can see today in the magnificent Andes. Our philsophy is to create wines that reflect their unique soils, formed by volcanic activity over millions of years and that are true expressions of their origin, displaying the purity and typicity of the specific grape without excessive oak that can mask the unique flavours." Intense aromas of black fruit, bitter chocolate with hints of olives and toasted notes. Full-bodied, structured and creamy, soft and ripe tannins, with typical hints of black pepper and spice.
