Some wines that will be on tasting

Torbreck 'The Laird' Shiraz 2016
Heady aromas of intense, rich dark fruits such as satsuma plum, blackberry and mulberry fill the bouquet with dark chocolate, spices and savoury notes combining added complexities. The palate possesses a rich concentration, with flavours of liquorice, ripe blackberries, dark plums and black cherries, evolving into a dark chocolate and mocha finish with cinnamon spice. Held together with a tight tannin profile and generous oak, the 2015 shows all the opulence and elegance of previous Laird’s, but with a complexity, precision and prominence that will make sure it ages gracefully for the next 20 - 30 years. This single vineyard Shiraz comes from an old vineyard in Marananga, planted in 1958. The five acre vineyard is traditionally dry grown and comes from an original Barossa clonal source. South facing, on the eastern side of a ridge separating the Seppeltsfield and Marananga appellations, these aged vines have been meticulously hand tended, traditionally farmed and pruned by a grower with a lifetime’s experience on Western Barossa soils of very dark, heavy clay loam over red friable clay. The resulting low yields of small, concentrated Shiraz berries make the vineyard the envy of all winemakers in the Barossa.

Torbreck RunRig 2018 (Released 1st July 2021)
A blend of 98% Shiraz and 2% Viognier made just prior to bottling, the latest RunRig vintage is a complete masterpiece. It kicks off with elegant notes of pencil shavings accenting blueberries and blackberries on the nose, then shows incredible, palate-staining intensity of fruit in the mouth. It’s full-bodied, plush and velvety without being unstructured and manages to be fruit-forward yet savoury on the long-lasting finish, where it picks up hints of mocha and black olives.

Torbreck RunRig 2013 (Museum Release)
Very deep, dark purple/red colour, with an amazing bouquet redolent of star anise, blackberry conserve, preserved plums, graphite and espresso coffee. The palate is staggeringly powerful, concentrated, dense and thickly textured, with a richness and density of licorice, blackberry conserve, black coffee, meaty charcuterie and toasty oak flavours that linger on and on. The length seems endless. The tannins are dense and thickly textured, with high extract lending it a striking texture. There's a lot of everything, and it's in balance. The wine is massive yet retains freshness. An awesome wine and an impressive RunRig. - Huon Hooke

Torbreck Les Amis Grenache 2018
Grenache has been a stalwart variety of the Barossa for more than 150 years, ideally suited to the Mediterranean climate and ancient soils. Torbreck's ultrapolished, approachable style is on display here, but those who spurn new oak influence will run a mile. Made with French barrique (50% new), there's so much of it that it's currently blanketing the wine, giving it a coat of sweet vanilla cola. Hiding beneath are lovely, ripe black and blue fruit, flowers and spice. The palate shows more fruit purity, a silky texture and a fine tannin structure. The oak still dominates, though, and a flash of heat from the alcohol is visible, too. Give this another few years in bottle; the cellaring potential is there. - Wine Enthusiast Enjoy with family and friends with a nice beef.

Torbreck Hillside Grenache 2018
The Hillside vineyard was established near the town of Lyndoch in the south western corner of the Barossa Valley in 1849 by the Springbett family. The first vines were planted in 1850 to Shiraz and Grenache and by 1860 two generations of the Springbett family had built a small winery, the second to be established in the region. Magnificent depth of colour displaying an impenetrable inky black core and a deep dark purple black hue. Intensely aromatic the nose offers up a combination of ripe dark plum, liquorice and blackberry scents which overlay vanillin oak, a hint of honeysuckle and spicy fennel notes. The palate is rich, lavish and densely textured, voluptuous spicy dark plum, black cherry and liquorice fruits give the otherwise sturdy tannin structure a velvety feel. Elements of fennel, vanillin oak and pepper sit beneath. Outstanding power concluding long and decadent. Enjoy with a succulent beef and venison.

Torbreck Eden Valley Viognier 2020
On a quest to become one of the world’s great wine marques. Ever since planting Viognier in the Descendant Vineyard Torbreck have strived to make a wine with similar distinction and purity to those of this famous Appellation and when exceptional vintages prevail they produce a Viognier that displays a distinctive varietal character. The aromas immediately lift from the glass filled with ginger, cinnamon, honeysuckle, apricot and exotic tropical fruits. There is a hint of vanilla bean pod and gentle spice emanating from partial oak maturation in new and seasoned French barrique that is seamlessly integrated. Goes great with almonds, citrus, stewed fruits and aromatic herbs.

Torbreck The Steading Blanc 2020
Inspired by the rich, luscious and mineral scented dry whites of the Rhône Valley, The Steading – Blanc is sourced entirely from the Descendant Vineyard on Roennfeldt Road first planted in 1994 on the Torbreck estate. The ripe, fleshy, barrel fermented Viognier and Marsanne gives the palate a textural edge whilst the Roussanne contributes it’s more flinty and austere personality. Fragrant aromas of acacia flowers, roasted nuts and buttered citrus are neatly balanced with underlying hints of bees wax and minerality. Medium to full-bodied with a lovely creaminess that lends texture to the opulent fruit, it is invigorated by a lively line of acid and a long, spicy finish. The Steading Blanc is a seamless wine with a silken texture that can be enjoyed with a rich crustacean based sauce and anything from the sea. Goes great with chicken, veal, pork dishes, spicy flavours and Asian cuisine.
