Tim Adams Aberfeldy Shiraz 2008 Magnums

SKU
TAAS200820 UCAU
A classic example of the vintage displayed in the wine. The 2008 mirrors the very dry and warm ripening season, very firm and dry tannin well distributed through the palate, with concentrated small berry fruit. Some developed caramelised stone fruit characters complement the jubey red plum flavours. Still youthful and vibrant overall, drinking well but will also last the test of time. All components of this blend were fermented to dryness on skins and subsequently left on skins for a further three weeks before being pressed. All pressings have been returned to the wine. It then spent 24 months in new American oak in our coolroom before blending, fining, filtering and bottling in August 2010.

"When it’s done well and seasoned and coopered well, I have no problem with American oak. I reckon it’s a positive with this wine, rather than a negative. Nice style of screwcap too. Rich blackberry and cherry, mint and sage with plenty of toasty clove spice oak. It’s full bodied, slippery, silky and seductive with a lovely interplay between sweet dark fruit and savoury wood spice. Flows through the mouth with effortless ease, and while it’s big and flavoursome, it feels calm and composed. Length and balance all in a happy place. It’ll take age but it’s hard to find reasons not to sit back and enjoy it as a young wine. TASTED DEC 2010"

"Bright colour; mountainous oak dominates the bouquet at this early stage, with raspberry, blackberry and mint on show as well; the palate follows suit, as the wine is rugged and unevolved, needing time to come together; big boned and full of raw power, time will be its friend. Shiraz."

Australia

The Australian wine industry is the fourth-largest exporter in the world, exporting 760 million litres to countries such as the UK, France, Italy and Spain. It has been one of the most successful 'New World' wine producing countries. It has done this by formally exporting and marketing its wines as a whole, through Wine Australia. There is also a significant domestic market for Australian wines, with Australians consuming nearly 500 million litres of wine per year. The wine industry is a significant contributor to the Australian economy through production, employment, export and tourism.

Wine regions are in almost all the states with Victoria having 21 regions! Read more about key wine regions such as Margaret River, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Eden Valley, Clare Valley, Hunter Valley, Yarra Valley and local to New South Wales, Cowra, Southern Highlands and Mudgee.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the country's vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.

Clare Valley

Situated in the Mid North of South Australia, approximately 120 km north of Adelaide is one of Australia's oldest wine regions the Clare Valley. The area is broken up into three sub-regions, the Polish Hill River region to the east, the Central Clare Valley, and the Skillogalee Valley to the west.

Often associated with some of Australia's finest Riesling the cool climate and differing terroirs have paved the way for exciting and diverse wines over a plethora of varietals resulting in wines of pure expression and great length. Home to some of Australia's most iconic wineries - cult producers like Wendouree, to Australian icons such as Kilikanoon and boutique producers like Atlas, the Clare Valley is definitely an area to keep an eye on for exciting and ever-evolving wines.
