The Sassenach is the first whisky launched by Sam Heughan (who you may know as the actor who plays Jamie Fraser on hit sci-fi TV show Outlander), inspired by picturesque Highland landscapes. Expect waves of butterscotch, fresh citrus and warming spices from this tasty blended Scotch whisky. Nose: Fresh apricot and orange, with a drizzle of caramel and a slow build of cinnamon. Palate: Waves of honey and vanilla fudge, dotted with raisin, almond and another helping of cinnamon spiciness. Finish: Lasting nutmeg, citrus oils and toffee.

Scotland

Scotland has a well-known and well-deserved global reputation for its whisky. But wine? Not where your mind immediately goes when you think of a thriving wine industry. Still, due to the impact of climate change, typically cool-climate areas find themselves experimenting and branching out into the business. Several entities have attempted to grow wine grapes here, such as Siegerrebe and Black Muscat, and though grapegrowing may not yet be flourishing here, growers and makers are cultivating other fruits for their wines, including gooseberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, and rhubarb. Among the wineries bottling up some fruity goodness are Orkney Wine Company and Cairn O’Mohr.

Scotland Multi Regional

Scotland has achieved broad international acclaim as a whisky producer and produces a wide array of whisky styles. There are five Scotch whisky regions: Highland (or Highlands), Campbeltown, Islay, Lowland, and Speyside. These regions are home to more than 130 whisky distilleries – each with its own unique expression of Scotland’s national drink (and largest export). A number of laws regulate Scotch whisky – a grain or malt whisky – production. For example, by law, the spirit must age for at least three years within Scotland to be called Scotch. (However, most Scotches age for much longer.) Further, there are five categories of Scotch whisky: single malt, single grain, blended malt, blended grain, and blended Scotch whisky.
