The Lenswood Chardonnay is the top white wine in the esteemed Shaw + Smith stable. From blocks three and four in our Lenswood Vineyard. First planted in 1999, it has east and west facing aspects and reaches 500 meters above sea level. The soil is brown loam over clay with some broken shale and stone on the ridges. This higher-altitude single vineyard in the Lenswood sub-region of the Adelaide Hills presents a more focused and linear style of Chardonnay than the more opulent M3. The quality of fruit here is simply outstanding, as is the care taken during the winemaking process. If classy, cool-climate Chardonnay is your thing, this is a beautiful Australian example that will find a very happy place in your cellar.

From Shaw+Smith's 500m high Lenswood vineyard, fondly nurtured to showcase the finer chardonnay elements. A warm and dry ripening season has yielded ripe peach and nectarine notes to begin, flint and wet stone characters offsetting fruit richness with earthy support. The palate is all about sculpted chardonnay luxury. A wealth of flavour is toned by natural acidity, crafted with a calm balance and a superbly steady trajectory.

The gorgeous, seductive nose is so complex – blossom, vegetal, fleshy, mineral, forest – that it’s a challenge to figure out exactly how so many elements to the bouquet are drawn together. Lean white peach forms the core of the palate, while the hint of flint and granite lick at the edges, but a rich, running stream of mid-palate flavour intrigues and draws you back in for another look

Top tier chardy from the famed Shaw + Smith stable. Hangs out in large format wood, new and old, gets a whole bunch press after an overnight chill. Tightly wound, very precise, lemon zest, flint, struck match, light cinnamon spice, faintly creamy but oh so subtle, exceptional length, understatement, a sense of drive and vitality. Smooth mover. No hair out of place. Pedigree gear. Luxury wine. Fancy from the get go. Actually, straight up delicious too and wonderfully seasoned. Superb example of modern Australian chardonnay. A benchmark where lean, racier style manages flavour and deliciousness. Kudos.
