Primo Estate
Primo Estate brings together the best of Australian and Italian winemaking traditions. Located north of Adelaide outside the township of Virginia, Primo Estate was established in 1953 by Primo Grilli following his arrival in Australia from the Le Marche region of Italy. Since then, Primo Estate has made a name for itself as one of Australia’s best red winemakers under the custodianship of second generation winemaker, Joseph Grilli.
Their flagship wine, the Joseph Moda, was first made in 1987 and takes its cues from the Grilli family’s Italian heritage. Crafted with McLaren Vale and Clarendon fruit, this wine has gone on the win awards year after year for its unique blend of Australian Cabernet fruit with remarkable Italian winemaking influences. The current 2013 vintage of the Primo Estate Joseph ‘Moda’ Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot has been classified as 'Excellent' by Langton's and received the highest scoring vintage ever on 'The Wine Front'.
