Over 50 local vineyards have set up shop around Pemberton, a small tourist town hidden among the spectacular karri forests of southwestern WA. The town's high altitude and southern latitude combine to create a relatively cool, almost Mediterranean climate. This means a longer ripening period for the grapes and a well-balanced final product.

The region's superb soil is another contributing factor to its popularity. From fertile karri loam to gravelly soil on higher slopes, the region offers winemakers a variety of landscapes with which to work. Famous for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz, the Pemberton area has well and truly made its mark on Australian wine culture.
