ONLINE TASTING PACK - G.D. VAJRA ITALIAN WINE TASTING WITH GIUSEPPE VAJRA
Online Wine Tastings

WHO RUNS THEM? Our Head Wine Buyer Mark Faber runs these events (he's already ran the majority of our in-person events, so there's no real change there). For our online events, we have brought in our mates from around the industry, from both here and overseas to host events depending on what the topic is! We've previously had winemakers such as Peter Fraser (Yangarra), Steve Pannell, (SC Pannell) as well as winemakers from Italy and France!
HOW MUCH ARE TICKETS? The best news is, these are FREE! You've got to buy the wines to taste along with our team, but we all need some wine at home during this period, don't we? We'll be offering 6 packs and dozen boxes, depending on the tasting.
**THIS ONLINE TASTING IS OVER**
This pack contains a bottle of 3 different wines to be opened during an online tasting held on the 30th of July 2020. During the COVID-19 lockdown, we will be running a series of online, interactive tastings so you can still get to try wines while keeping safe, healthy and at home.
"The Vajra family has quietly amassed a serious collection of vineyards that make them one of Piedmont’s larger, family-owned estates, something they have accomplished while maintaining the already high level of their entry-level wines. Every wine in the range is absolutely delicious and full of personality. I can’t recommend these new releases highly enough." Antonio Galloni said of the 2015 vintage.
At this online event, Giuseppe will taste with us through some of his most popular wines to give us a snapshot of the story of GD Vajra, as well as the region of Piedmont, with a spotlight on Barolo.
- GD VAJRA BARBERA D'ALBA 2018
- GD VAJRA BAROLO ‘ALBE’ 2014
- G.D. VAJRA BAROLO COSTE DI ROSE 2015
This tasting will be done completely online, and questions are definitely encouraged. You can use your phone or laptop, you do not need a camera or microphone to take part.

Gary Walsh
G.D. VAJRA BAROLO COSTE DI ROSE 2015 - "A new vineyard (and wine) for Vajra, first leased in 2015, and purchased in 2018. Raspberry, rose, almonds, light and fine. Medium-bodied at best, red fruited, very fresh, gentle sandy tannin grip, precise and quite delicate, finish has grip and a dry feel, but the perfume lingers. Very good, with much more to come. It’s the quiet ones you have to watch."

GD VAJRA BARBERA D'ALBA 2018 - "I’m not the world’s biggest fan of Barbera, but when it’s good, and it’s from 2016, well…
Floral, dark cherry, red fruit, spice, lively, medium-bodied, such fine balance, tannin is grainy but fine, ‘mineral’ feel to the acidify, fresh, juicy and long to close. Smoking Barbera, and so nicely made. Drink 2019-2026+"

GD VAJRA BAROLO ‘ALBE’ 2014 - "A tribute to local tradition, the 2014 Barolo Albe represents an assembly of fruit from various vineyard plots throughout the area. Winemaking is classic in approach with a 25-day maceration period and aging in large Slavonian oak casks. This vintage shows silky, fine lines and a more accessible approach for near and medium- term drinking. I would recommend a few more years of bottle aging, however, to allow the wine the time to grow in texture and mouthfeel."

Antonio Galloni
GD VAJRA BAROLO ‘ALBE’ 2014 - "Vajra's 2014 Barolo Albe is a pretty wine, but it is also a touch slender. Part of that is, of course, attributable to the vintage, but in recent years the Albe has been stylistically more similar to the other Barolos in the range than it was at the outset. Suggestions of sweet tobacco, cinnamon, dried flowers and black cherry are layered in this supple, easygoing Barolo. Drink it over the next handful of years."
