Scores & Reviews

JEAN-PAUL BRUN BEAUJOLAIS 'LE RONSAY' 2018 - "Brilliant value for this young Beaujolais, an "entry tier" wine composed of young vines (still 20+ years) and made through the same low-interventionist philosophy that governs all of legendary Jean-Paul Brun's wines. Rock, roses, wild raspberry, white peppercorn, fresh herbs rush through this lean, charming, light bodied and highly quaffable wine. Tannins are bamboo fine, housing this to a peppery finish. Honest, characterful, authentic; I challenge anyone who says they don't like Gamay to not like this real wine."

CHAMPAGNE JACQUINOT 'PRIVATE CUVEE' BRUT NV - "Chardonnay (75%) and pinot noir (25%) blend with 30% reserve wines. Light, almost ethereal wine with delicacy and charm. Subtle yeast autolysis characters and a silken texture. A delicately refreshing wine"

DOMAINE LOUIS MICHEL CHABLIS 1ER CRU 'MONTEE DE TONNERRE' 2017 - "The 2017 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is gorgeous. Sweet, perfumed and light on its feet, the 2017 possesses striking aromatic intensity and nuance. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint, white pepper and chamomile add layers of nuance to a super-refined Chablis that conveys energy and finesse - the two key signatures of this great premier cru site."

DOMAINE LES ALEXANDRINS ST JOSEPH 2016 - "Pepper, blue fruits, pretty violets, graphite, couldn't be more different from their Crozes. Very polished and pretty with a brooding intensity. Very fresh linear acidity, fine boned tannins, very intense and so much complexity. Very good now, but will be unbelievable in 5 years."

CHAMPAGNE DRAPPIER BRUT NATURE NV - "The burgeoning trend towards no-dosage champagne is a great one. It makes for champagnes that are fresher, tighter, racier and – often – more fun, like drinking an exciting youngster as opposed to sidling up to an old faithful. Dry and yet full of flavour, this drinks beautifully now and will keep the heart racing for a few years yet."
