Made by Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the year 2017, Dave Bicknell. This is a powerful chardonnay, classically styled, oatmeal and oak, peach and roasted cedar wood; it announces itself and it then stays the course. There’s a quartz-like character and plenty of toast; the palate is rich; the finish is both textural and long. Nothing here feels windswept or cursive; the flavours have all been set in bold font. A traditional winemaking approach was used to produce this wine - handpicking and whole bunch pressing directly to 500 litre French oak puncheons for a natural fermentation followed by 11 month maturation on lees. Oakridge are one of the most consistent producers in this fantastic cool-climate Victorian region. The Local Vineyard Series source the best fruit from the best sites every year.

James Halliday

“There is a very deliberate touch of funky complexity to the bouquet and the finish of the palate, stemming from the barrel fermentation on 100% solids juice. It’s accepted, indeed welcomed, by judges and consumers.”

All the attention has been on the 2015s and then this 2016 appears. Stop the presses. Fruit concentration is immediately apparent. This is a powerful chardonnay, classically styled, oatmeal and oak, peach and roasted cedar wood; it announces itself and it then stays the course. There’s a quartz-like character and plenty of toast; the palate is rich; the finish is both textural and long. Nothing here feels windswept or cursive; the flavours have all been set in bold font, Bodoni-like, suggestive of class at every turn.
