This newly-minted Yarra Valley label is sourced and crafted by Arfion and Salo maestro Dave Mackintosh. The name is taken from the famous line by Latin poet Horace: “Nunc est bibendum” (“Now is the time for drinking”). And that's exactly what we expect you'll do when you try it! This is a savoury, amaro- and tea leaf-inflected Pinot, with lifted notes of red cherry, raspberry and rose leading to a palate that is juicy and bright, medium-bodied, and with a deliciously smoky-spicy close. Much more serious than the price indicates. Dave Mackintosh worked with growers from four Yarra Valley vineyards, stretching across the region's myriad of microclimates and soils. Approximately 60% of the fruit was sourced from the red rich soils and cooler climes of the Upper Yarra; the subregions of Gladysdale, Beenak and Woori Yallock providing lifted floral aromatics, albeit with a little more density than previous years. Dollar for dollar, this has to be one of the best Yarra Pinots out there. Winemaker Dave Mackintosh really knows how to pack a lot into each bottle; strawberry, floral muskiness, and a decent amount of Garrigue earthiness. Crunchy, light, elegant body with firm slightly green tannins from the addition of whole bunches and perfect 13% abv. Outstanding.
