A rather hedonistic nose suggests ripe pears, fresh peach and oatmeal while the palate is taught and chalky with nectarine, pear and iodine notes and a driven freshness. Unmistakably Marlborough for its cleansing hit of salty goodness, this is harmonious, balanced and dry. Like we said, outstanding value and a wine that again breaks the mould. Winemaker Mike Patterson wants this to seriously over deliver at the price and it's fair to say it's mission accomplished with this release. It's Chardonnay that's gone through 100% malolactic fermentation, imparting all the butterscotchy and creamy salted caramel notes that are rare to find in a Chardonnay at this price. There's no new oak but there is texture in spades. If you're looking for a richer style of Chardonnay, this is a great option that won't break the bank.

Creamy lees aromas lead the way with the bouquet, followed by red apple, honeydew melon and a smoky, slatey note. The palate has a very crisp, lean line of acid but some creamy, honeycomb and yoghurt round out the wine. The creamy oak and malolactic notes match the more ripe red apple and melon notes. Crisp, mineral finish.
