MEET THE MAKER NICK MILLS RIPPON 23rd OCTOBER 2019 6.30PM

Event Date: Oct 23, 2019

Registration End Date: Oct 23, 2019

For over a century the Mills family has farmed a small patch of earth on the banks of Lake Wanaka, right in the northern-most section of Central Otago, New Zealand. Nick Mills is the fourth generation of his family to walk the rows of Rippon. He and his family now farm the site according to biodynamic principals, and his wines have well and truly achieved cult status, selling out within hours every year. "Mills’s wines from one of the most dramatically-sited, cool climate vineyards in the world, are consistently the most evocative of any that I have come across from New Zealand..." - Joshua Greene (Wine & Spirits) We are so pleased to host Nick for one evening tasting of his wines. If you already know Rippon, you'll know how much of a rare treat this will be, and for those looking to dig deeper into their passion for Pinot Noir, this is a chance to meet one of the most revered producers of this fickle variety. Either way make sure not to miss this rare event!

RIPPON GEWURZTRAMINER 2018
Picked by hand into small, 10kg cases allowing the fruit to arrive at the winery’s sorting table intact. Over 50% was left on its skins to macerate over night. All fruit was whole bunch pressed over 3 hours and run, by gravity, into settling tanks. 12 hours of settling is passed after which the juice is racked, retaining fine lees, into a horizontal fermentation tank (stainless-steel foudre). Aromas of apple and lychee with floral notes and hints of spice. The nose follows onto the flinty, textured palate with some apple flavours.

RIPPON SAUVIGNON BLANC 2018
Picked by hand into small, 10kg cases allowing the fruit to arrive at the winery’s sorting table intact. Over 50% was left on its skins to macerate over night. All fruit was whole bunch pressed over 3 hours and run, by gravity, into settling tanks. 12 hours of settling is passed after which the juice is racked, retaining fine lees, into a horizontal fermentation tank (stainless-steel foudre). Attractive lemon-peel, lime-zest, sliced green-apple and beeswax aromas lead to a palate that offers a fresh, crisp and composed array of fresh lemon-juice flavors. Complex and Savoury for a Sauvignon Blanc, this makes it the perfect food wine.
