Event Date: Sep 4, 2019

Registration End Date: Sep 4, 2019

This month in the United Cellars tasting room, we'll have the great honour of welcoming Hunter Smith for our 'Meet the Maker' series. Hunter is the second generation winemaker at esteemed Western Australian producer Frankland Estate. In a 1955 study of potential grapegrowing sites, renowned Californian viticulturalist Dr Harold Olmo identified Frankland River as one of the most promising prospects in Australia. Wines that will be on tasting

FRANKLAND ESTATE 'ISOLATION RIDGE' RIESLING 2018
Framed organically (certified) contributing to this consistently being ranked among the best in Australia. The wine leaps out of the glass with perfumed white citrus florals, spice and grapefruit. A real generosity and poise on the palate. Ripe juicy limes upfront, with a crisp acidity that carries the fruit all the way into a long saline, mineral finish. Elegant yet powerful, it builds layers in the mouth as the wine opens up. Consistent with the now well-established Isolation Ridge style this wine reflects both the low-yielding, dry growing conditions of this site.

FRANKLAND ESTATE 'POISON HILL' RIESLING 2018
A complex, alluringly perfumed, silky textured wine. Aromas of lavender, rose petal and jasmine green tea are complemented by hints of spice and chalky-talc notes. The nose leads into a soft, elegant yet flavoursome palate. A luxurious wine with a taughtness on the palate giving it real focus, it is distinguished by a pronounced juicy citrus tone and underlying talc/quartz-like minerality. The finely textured acidity provides a sensous mouthcoating of expressive fruit; think funky tropical, making this a charmingly complex wine. The unconventional name of Poison Hill Vineyard is a result of it being located on the slopes of a hill where Heartleaf Clover is found- a native plant poisonous to all non-native animals.
