A fruit-driven Barbera (75%) and Nebbiolo (25%) blend. The nose is expressive and inviting with aromas of fresh red fruits overlaid by notes of dried herbs, forest undergrowth and aniseed. The palate is medium bodied and well balanced with a by core of cherry and red berried flavours wrapped in spice, alpine herbs and savoury notes.

(2017 vintage) A reliable performer, with packaging that’s second to none when it comes to claiming shelf space, or looking sophisticated on the table. I was told that at one stage, this was the best selling Italian red in the county. Perhaps that’s still the case? I don’t know such things generally, even given the lofty view from the top of my ivory tower. Rich, liquorice and suede, dark cherry and dried rose perfume, some spice. It’s fleshy and savoury, invariably a little rustic to taste, but in a good way for a wine that’s made to be enjoyed with gusto as a youngster. It has freshness and energy too, given its scale, and finishes dry and savoury. It delivers.
