This stylish wine is a tribute to Arthur Follett, who planted the first vines on the family property in the 1880’s.
A blend of 93% Cabernet, 5% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot, this wine is truly handcrafted from the vineyard through to the finished product. The grapes were carefully selected from 40-50 year old vines from our family vineyard on the famous Langhorne Creek flood plain.
Small open fermenters were used with maceration times varying from 8-12 days. The wine was then aged in 100% French Oak for 21 months with only the best barrels of the vintage chosen for the final blend, which remained unfined and unfiltered.
The resultant wine shows classic blackcurrant aromas with violets, mint and savoury characters. The palate has great depth and silkiness and shows wonderful intensity and length of flavour. With correct cellaring this wine will drink beautifully over the next 15-20 years.

South Australia
If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the country's vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.
Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!
Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
Langhorne Creek
Less than an hour drive south east of Adelaide, you'll find the country town of Langhorne Creek. It's full of family wine growers some who've been making wine in the area for up to six generations. It's most well known for producing red wines of high quality, in particular Cabernet and Shiraz.
Langhorne Creek experiences ocean breezes which moderate the otherwise warm climate. The town is on the banks of the north to south flowing Bremer River which flows on to Lake Alexandrina. The river frequently floods across the vineyards (particularly in winter) bringing up silts which contribute to the regions terroir.
Whilst it may still not be the most well known of South Australia's many wine regions, plenty of outstanding wine comes from there.
About the brand Lake Breeze
We have a rich history beginning in the 1850's when William Hill first took up land in Langhorne Creek, building the initial homestead later become known as 'Fairholme'. William's granddaughter married Arthur Follett, who established the first vineyards on the property during the late 1880's.
Arthur was the eldest son of John Follett who had arrived in Adelaide in 1839 at the age of 19 and he made his home at 'Hazel Farm', Mount Barker. Arthur followed his heart to Langhorne Creek, establishing the vineyard at 'Fairholme' and marrying Alice Fairweather in 1890.
The property had always combined a successful dairy farm along with grape growing. The 'Bremer View Illawarra Stud' was founded by Len Follett in 1932 and he became well recognised for running one of the best production Illawarra herds in South Australia.
Ken continued his father's and grandfather's legacy, but began to place a greater emphasis on wine grape growing. He replaced the old palomino and doradillo vines in the 1960's and 1970's with cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and later chardonnay. These varieties currently make up the bulk of our 90 hectare vineyard. Ken and Marlene reside at 'Bernoota', the homestead which was built in the late 1920's.
A new chapter began for the Follett family with the first Lake Breeze wine produced in 1987. This led to the opening of the cellar door in 1991.
The next generation have now assumed control with Greg the winemaker, Roger the export and sales manager and Tim managing the vineyard, all working together to make Lake Breeze Wines the huge success that it is today.
