Karrawatta
Mark Gilbert is the great-great-great-grandson of Joseph Gilbert, who established the Pewsey Vale vineyard and winery in 1847. Joseph Gilbert had named the property Karrawatta, but adopted Pewsey Vale after losing the toss of a coin with his neighbour. The Karrawatta of today has 12.43ha of vines in the Adelaide Hills, 38.07ha in Langhorne Creek and 8.75ha in McLaren Vale. The vineyards are all hand pruned, the small-batch wines fashioned with minimum intervention.
