New cuvée. Disgorged October 2020. Extra Brut. DIAM Mytik closure. This is the new Négociant-Manipulant cuvée that was born of the disastrous frost in 2017. Prévost applied (hastily and successfully) for NM status, two letters that allowed him to purchase the fruit from 0.4 hectares of vines owned by his neighbour in Les Béguines. This not only allowed Prévost to release a Les Béguines from 2017, but the deal also gave him access to a handful of other parcels going forward in Gueux, on the same Thanetian sands as Les Béguines. Most of these vines are tended by Jérôme and his team, and the other parcels are worked under close consultation with the vigneron, with decisions about harvest (date and selection) made by Prévost. This first release of La Closerie is a blend of 80% from 2018 and 20% reserve wine from 2017, vinified à la Prévost—without any inoculation and in large format oak. Dosage is just two grams per litre. I have the feeling that this will be a cuvée that will allow Prévost to experiment more than normal. For a start we have a DIAM closure here (as opposed to cork on the other wines), then ther(more...)
