On the 30th of October, United Cellars are delighted to announce the one and only dinner in Australia with Jancis Robinson MW, one of the most esteemed wine critics in the world. Mrs Robinson will be in Australia launching her new range of glassware, and to celebrate, we'll be hosting a dinner at Bentley Restaurant, where we'll match some of Australia's best wines to award-winning food. Jancis Robinson OBE, ComMA, MW is a British wine critic, journalist and wine writer. She currently writes a weekly column for the Financial Times, and writes for her website JancisRobinson.com, updated daily. She also provides advice for the wine cellar of Queen Elizabeth II. As a wine writer, she has become one of the world's leading writers of educational and encyclopedic material on wine and was described by Decanter magazine as 'the most respected wine critic and journalist in the world'. Some wines that will be on tasting

-gossamer-thin glass with a particularly thin rim to put the taster in as close communication with the liquid as possible, so my glass had to be individually mouth-blown by skilful, experienced artisans -a stem that is tall enough to allow even the big-handed to swirl comfortably without affecting the temperature of the wine, but thick enough to preclude easy breakage, and short enough to fit easily into a dishwasher and on a shelf in a normal domestic cupboard -dishwasher-friendly (this is almost my personal number one requirement; we use so many glasses) -a generous bowl going in towards the rim that captures the all-important aroma and allows energetic swirling to encourage it with no danger of losing any wine over the rim, but is not so wide as to make storage difficult, or measures of wine look mean -an opening at the top that is big enough for the big-nosed but not so big that spillage would be a problem -a capacity that yields maximum surface area with an average pour of about 125 ml

"..Lalou Bize-Leroy stands virtually alone at the top of Burgundy's quality hierarchy.." - Robert Parker Made by the renowned perfectionist Lalou Bize-Leroy. An extremely concentrated, yet refined wine. Vibrant red fruits with aromas of cranberry, strawberry and hints of smoky spices. A fresh and lovely weighted mouthfeel with racy acidity, beautiful depth and great structure. Rich fruit flavours and lovely soft tannins on the finish.

"The aromas are dominated by violets, cherries, cassis and spice. There is a level of vibrancy to this wine, only seen at such a young age in the very best vintages. The palate is built around beautifully ripe, ultra-fine grained tannin. The mid-palate is rich, long and expansive and shows all five varieties quite clearly playing their role and adding complexity.... The vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (15%), Malbec (5%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The percentage of each variety that goes into the final blend changes with the season as factors such as fruitfulness and fruit set vary." - Sam Middleton

At Jacquesson we are fortunate to have some exceptional terroirs, all Premiers and Grands Crus from La Grande Vallee de la Marne and the Cote des Blancs. Our viticulture relies on time-honoured principles, we use only the cuvee from each pressing and have absolutely no hesitation, in difficult vintages, in rejecting juice which doesn’t meet our standards. As a result, our multi-vintage wines retain the best of every harvest and we are proud to be able to say that they faithfully reflect the characteristics of the base vintage whilst benefiting from the addition of some vins de reserve. A beautiful, fruity, juicy Champagne with hints of citrus, floral notes and peach. Made with 47% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier, it is rich and well-rounded and will stand up to extensive cellaring.

A slightly fuller and more open expression of our site, reflecting the relative generosity of the vintage, this year’s Chardonnay opens with aromas of ripe nectarine, vanilla and poached pear. Complex and controlled, there’s a sense of power that slowly emerges, showing hints of ripe melon, honeycomb and lemon curd. The palate displays richness and power, within a tight framework of great persistence and length. As always there’s purity and restraint, but this year the wine commands a little more centre-stage attention, showing great savoury drive and stunning length as it dances across the palate. A complex and beautiful wine, and a real standout this year. - Sandra de Pury

An exceptional quality 1er Cru Chablis from an extraordinary producer and site, this is quickly becoming one of the best value Burgundies imported into Australia each year. Equal Highest Scoring Chablis in 2016 - Decanter Magazine After airing, this wine presents a perfect balance between fresh minerality and very ripe fruit. The mouth is warm, delicious and salty, with a spicy cinnamon finish. Located on the right back of the river Serein, the same as for the Grand Crus, the Montée de Tonnerre is certainly the most prestigious and well-renowned of all the Chablis Premier Crus.

Steve Pannell is one of Australia's most renowned winemakers, regarded by peers & press as being utterly relevant and forward-thinking, at the same time as serving as a wise older statesman. This fact was celebrated recent when he was awarded Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year. Koomilya vineyard is Stephen Pannell's own treasured site. He fell in love with it in the mid-1990s- and at this time nearly 25 years ago, he won the coveted Jimmy Watson with a Shiraz build upon a parcel of this vineyard! In fact, Steve has won the Jimmy Watson Trophy twice now, as well as the prestigious 'Bushing King' title for best wine of show at the McLaren Vale Wine Show the last 3 out of 4 years. Steve is in a purple patch, and we're so glad to be able to sell his wines!

G.D. Vajra - “a world of sublime hand-crafted, artisan wines of the very highest level”, as Antonio Galloni calls it - is run in the second generation by Giuseppe, Isidoro and Francesca Vaira, lovingly overseen by father Aldo and mother Milena. Albe is a tribute to the masters of the 1950s and 60s, to those winemakers who had the vision and the taste to blend some of the most amazing crus in order to achieve a Barolo of balance and charm. The high-elevation vineyards for Barolo Albe have an exposure ranging from south-south-east to south-west. The grapes are usually picked in the second half of the Nebbiolo harvest. Vinification is made in custom-designed vertical vats, with gentle punch down and pumpovers. Maceration lasts 25 days on average. Malolactic conversion occurs in stainless steel the following spring. Albe rests on average between 30 and 36 months in large (40, 50 and 75hL) Slavonian oak casks. The wine is usually racked once a year. Blending is decided in the spring prior to bottling. – Giuseppe Vaira
