Editors notes

The great 2021 vintage expresses itself at Springvale as subtle lemon and lime citrus aromas, a touch of lavender and spring herbs. There’s an intensity on the palate, which is fresh, pristine and powerful, a taut structure which defines the wine and helps it build layers of citrus flavours. The finish is ultra-dry, long and precise. While delicious when young, it will benefit from more time. Drink now or cellar for 20 years.

Produced from riesling grown at Grosset Springvale Vineyard, certified organic and biodynamic (ACO).

Critic Scores & reviews

  • Huon Hooke

""Very light to pale-straw colour. The aromas are on the more lifted and fragrant side, with a bouquet of flowers, quite yeasty, together with lavender notes, the palate refined and seamless, soft as talc and harmonious, the acidity perfectly balanced, the finish refreshing and long. Dry-but-soft aftertaste. A lovely wine, but it's still yeasty and needs more time to settle.""
  • Mike Bennie

""Pretty perfume of frangipani, honeysuckle and lime with faint hints of blackcurrants. Juicy and approachable in the palate, slick with citrus oil characters, cool with lacy line of acidity, a touch of salted nuts, all well balanced, exceptional in length and persistence. Feels concentrated and quietly powerful. Smart release.""

"(2020 vintage) "This has a very fresh nectarine and lime nose with light floral notes and delivers a fleshy, ripe palate that has juicy, drink-now appeal. A little stony mineral to close.""

""While there's grapefruit pith-like texture and a richness across the palate, it's also fresh and breezy in an appealing drink-now way. Builds with limes and spices, acidity is softer in profile and it finishes a touch short, but no complaints as to its appeal.""

Australia

Australia's wine industry is a thriving part of the country's economy, contributing significantly to employment, production, export, and tourism. In fact, the industry is the fourth-largest wine exporter in the world, shipping out 760 million liters of wine to countries including France, Italy, Spain, and the UK. One of the key factors contributing to Australia's success as a "New World" wine producer is the formal export and marketing of its wines through Wine Australia.

Australia's wine regions are scattered across the south and southeast, with almost every state boasting its own vineyards. Victoria, for example, is home to an impressive 21 wine regions. Some of the most famous wine regions in Australia include Margaret River, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Eden Valley, Clare Valley, Hunter Valley, Yarra Valley, and local regions to New South Wales such as Cowra, Southern Highlands, and Mudgee.

Australian winemakers are known for producing a diverse range of grape varieties, with Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir being among the most popular. They tend to focus on producing wines that are ripe, fruit-forward, and easy to drink, using modern winemaking techniques and equipment such as stainless steel tanks and temperature-controlled fermentation.

With its bold, fruit-driven flavors and reputation for quality and diversity, Australian wine has become a popular choice for wine lovers around the world. And with such a broad range of wine regions and grape varieties, there's something for every palate to enjoy.

South Australia

If you like Australian wine, then you probably like South Australia wine. The rich reds produced there put Australia on the wine-making map of the world. With over 40% of the country's vineyards, South Australia can rightfully call itself the wine state.

Wines are produced in several regions throughout the state, though many are naturally grouped together, like Barossa and Eden Valleys, only 15 minutes apart. They include such regions as Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, The Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Wrattonbully to name but a few!

Barossa Valley boasts some of the oldest vines in Australia dating back to 1843 and produces some of the world's finest Shiraz, whilst the 'terra rossa' soils of Coonawarra is most suited to producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons. If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.

Clare Valley

Situated in the Mid North of South Australia, approximately 120 km north of Adelaide is one of Australia's oldest wine regions the Clare Valley. The area is broken up into three sub-regions, the Polish Hill River region to the east, the Central Clare Valley, and the Skillogalee Valley to the west.

Often associated with some of Australia's finest Riesling the cool climate and differing terroirs have paved the way for exciting and diverse wines over a plethora of varietals resulting in wines of pure expression and great length. Home to some of Australia's most iconic wineries - cult producers like Wendouree, to Australian icons such as Kilikanoon and boutique producers like Atlas, the Clare Valley is definitely an area to keep an eye on for exciting and ever-evolving wines.

About the brand Grosset

Established in 1981, Grosset Wines is independently owned and dedicated to allowing purity of fruit and region to take centre stage. “We aim to produce the best examples of variety and place. This is self-explanatory really… Riesling from the Clare Valley, expressing the dramatic differences between soft rock and hard rock sites and then differences within those broad categories; uniquely sited Semillon and Fiano, Cabernet from the coolest site in the region and of course, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from an even cooler sub-region of the Adelaide Hills,” explains owner and founder, Jeffrey Grosset. “Purity of fruit and optimum ripeness are crucial to us, and we are not afraid to use different wine making approaches to bring the best out of each vineyard. Each is a testament to this philosophy.”
