As the saying goes, 'Cabernet is King.' All across the world, Cabernet ignites a passion in wine aficionados & casual drinkers alike. It's structural tannins, driving acidity & delicious blend of herb & black fruit flavours set a fire in drinkers & winemakers alike. Cabernet has an amazing ability to show its own unique 'Cabernet-ness', but at the same time, it is able to adapt to its environment & will always reflect "terrior". This soirée will be coming to Brisbane on August 13th with a showcase of wines based on Cabernet (both Sauvignon & Franc), but also including several of its blending companions. This tasting series will showcase wines from regions famous for their Cabernet Sauvignon in Australia such as Coonawarra, Clare Valley, Margaret River & Yarra Valley, however you'll also get the chance to travel further afield to try wines from Bordeaux & the Napa Valley just to name a few. Not only will this be an entertaining & informative evening, but you’ll also get to experience 12 fantastic wines paired skilfully to four courses by the team at Must Winebar. CHATEAU DUHART-MILON ROTHSCHILD 2016
The 2016 Duhart-Milon-Rothschild is a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot. "The bouquet is tightly wound with blackberry, cigar box and sous-bois aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a crisp line of acidity, just a touch of black pepper enlivening the black fruit." Neal Martin

MOUNT MARY QUINTET 2017
45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot. Quintet remains the flagship wine of our estate, representing the initial vision Dr John had when discovering this unique site. It’s hard to remember a Quintet that displayed such lifted aromatics on release as this 2017. The nose is particularly vibrant and fruit forward at this early stage, bursting with aromas of cassis, cherry, plum and chocolate. There is a hint of earth/ undergrowth/cigar box here playing second fiddle to the bright expressive fruit. The palate follows on with a similar theme with flavours of blackcurrant, plum, liquorice and chocolate. The tannins and acid profile give this wine such beautiful structure, purity and persistence through the palate – more so than we’ve seen in a young Quintet for quite some time. We’re extremely excited to see how this wine will evolve over the coming 2-3 decades. – Sam Middleton

MOSS WOOD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2017
Nose: A classic Cabernet combination of blueberries, violets, blackberries with tar and cedar notes. The musky, black fruit note also suggests the higher percentage of Petit Verdot this year. There’s also pencil shavings and pomegranate and a very light toasty oak. Palate: In the traditional Moss Wood style, the first impression here is one of bright, generous blue and black fruit flavours, sitting over concentrated but balanced tannin. It’s the classic vineyard statement. However, there is also some pointers to the 2017 season, with crisp acidity, giving the palate a taut, almost zippy feel. The finish is firm, with a very light touch of toasty oak, mixing with cedar and tar.

TE MATA ESTATE 'COLERAINE' 2018
With an exceptionally warm, classic, long summer - Vintage 2018 gave us an explosion of flavour and colour! Continued sunshine gave us the chance to keep ripening our reds right through until 20 April. The reds have incredibly deep colours and ripe, round, tannins, and the whites are already looking very fresh with intense, ripe flavours. The final blend is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Coleraine derives its name from the Coleraine vineyard, home of John and Wendy Buck of Te Mata Estate. John’s late grandfather was born in Coleraine in Northern Ireland and the name has been maintained through the family home to the wine. Originally a single vineyard wine, from 1989 Coleraine has been an assemblage of the finest wines produced from distinct plots within Te Mata Estate’s oldest vineyards on the Havelock Hills

GIANT STEPS 'HARRY'S MONSTER' CABERNET MERLOT PETIT VERDOT 2018
Winner of the Trophy for Best Cabernet Varieties & their blends at the 2019 Langton’s Yarra Valley Wine Show. This topped off a great night for Giant Steps, who were the Most Successful Exhibitor for the 2nd year in a row. 44% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot from the Sexton Vineyard, fermented separately then blended. Matured in French oak (12% new) for 14 months. Made by Gourmet Traveller Wine 'Winemaker of the Year' 2016 Steve Flamsteed, Harry's Monster is his take on a New World Bordeaux Blend.

Sourced from a single vineyard located at Sweetwater Ridge in the northern Belford end of the Lower Hunter Valley. Since 1844 the soils of Sweetwater Hermitage have been the foundation for some of the oldest known vineyards in the Hunter Valley. This wine is an excellent example of the best reds that Clare Valley can produce. Made as an homage to the seldom-seen Cabernet Malbecs made by enigmatic Wendouree. Sourced from a vineyard in the upper Clare right next to this mysterious winery's home vineyards. Lovely restrained nose. Herbal notes of dried oregano and bay leaf. Blue fruits & hints of violet beautifully supported by tones of old leather. This wine will only improve with age. Continuing from the nose, dried herbs, blue and red fruits. Fantastic tannins, fine acid and a wonderful length.
