Editors notes

Alluring floral notes of violets, dark berries, exotic savoury spices and black pepper. Atypically feminine and pretty at this stage – beginning to develop complex characters of Charcuterie, briar, undergrowth and graphite.

"More black pepper here. Woodsmoke. Black cherry. Not a huge wine but it begs the word statuesque. Perfectly formed, supple tannin. If you wanted to know what Giaconda shiraz is all about, this would be a great place to start. Cork-sealed likewise. Super shiraz."
  • Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Deep garnet-purple in color. the 2010 Warner Vineyard Shiraz presents a wonderfully fragrant and complex nose of warm blackberries, wild blueberries and black raspberries with hints of pepper, dried Provencal herbs, cloves, aniseed, char-grilled meat and loam. Medium-bodied, the palate is both elegantly constructed and intense. with loads of black and red fruit flavor layers and a pleasant earthy and herbal streak. It is all framed by medium to firm rounded tannins as well as crisp acid and finishes with great persistence. Drink it 2014 to 2024+."

"Elegant and tightly focused, this dusty, faintly herbal shiraz has the length and structure to flesh out nicely. Its retrained smoky and floral bouquet of dark berries, cherries, plums and cedar/chocolate oak is lifted by a meaty presence of animal hide and ethereal, musky spices. Long and supple, with a retrained presence of vibrant, faintly sour-edged fruit, it finishes with a gentle extract, fresh acids and a lingering fruitfulness."

Locations

Australia

Australia's wine industry is a thriving part of the country's economy, contributing significantly to employment, production, export, and tourism. In fact, the industry is the fourth-largest wine exporter in the world, shipping out 760 million liters of wine to countries including France, Italy, Spain, and the UK. One of the key factors contributing to Australia's success as a "New World" wine producer is the formal export and marketing of its wines through Wine Australia.

Australia's wine regions are scattered across the south and southeast, with almost every state boasting its own vineyards. Victoria, for example, is home to an impressive 21 wine regions. Some of the most famous wine regions in Australia include Margaret River, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Eden Valley, Clare Valley, Hunter Valley, Yarra Valley, and local regions to New South Wales such as Cowra, Southern Highlands, and Mudgee.

Australian winemakers are known for producing a diverse range of grape varieties, with Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir being among the most popular. They tend to focus on producing wines that are ripe, fruit-forward, and easy to drink, using modern winemaking techniques and equipment such as stainless steel tanks and temperature-controlled fermentation.

With its bold, fruit-driven flavors and reputation for quality and diversity, Australian wine has become a popular choice for wine lovers around the world. And with such a broad range of wine regions and grape varieties, there's something for every palate to enjoy.

Victoria

The wine region of Victoria has the highest number of grapevines than any other state in Australia. It is home to over 600 wineries and well-known regions such as Yarra Valley, Heathcote, and Rutherglen. Victoria is situated in the southeastern corner of Australia where due to the location, the climate has a cool maritime influence and is known for its outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, along with producing Australia’s most famed dessert Muscat and Topaque wines.

There are a number of different terroir levels throughout the wine region of Victoria which leads to the production of different ranges of wines. In the southern region of Victoria, the vines are regulated by the cool winds of the Bass Strait. Central Victoria consists of mostly flat terrain that tends to be drier and warmer than the rest of Victoria, which results in more fruit concentrated wines. It may be surprising to note that Victoria is the third most productive wine region in Australia, seeing as it does not have as many areas suitable for viticulture, which has resulted in the cellar door culture of Victoria being concentrated with smaller, but more personal boutique wineries.

Beechworth

With soils packed with minerals and a range of altitudes and terroir, Beechworth is situated on the continental side of the Victorian Alps, setting the scene for warm, sunny days as well as cool nights, which temper any heat and produce wine grapes with natural elegance.

Beechworth is home to some of the best Chardonnay produced in Australia, along with other cool-climate varietals like Pinot Noir. A focus on small batch production lends a boutique air to Beechworth with winemakers being hands-on when it comes to every aspect of their vines and wines.

About the brand Giaconda

The Giaconda Vineyard and Winery was established by Rick Kinzbrunner just outside of Beechworth, Victoria. Originally a mechanical engineer with an 'interest' in wine, Kinzbrunner studied at the University of California at Davis before working at a handful of local wineries including Stag's Leap, Simi and Matanzas Creek as well as the famed Chateau Petrus, on Bordeaux's Right Bank. In 1982 after returning to Australia, Kinzbrunner purchased land and planted the classic varieties of Chardonnay, Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot and Pinot Noir. Situated in the foothills of the Victorian Alps, warm days and cool nights provide ideal ripening conditions for the grapes while the moderately fertile soil provides just enough support to allow the varietal character to shine through. The first wines produced under the Giaconda label were released in 1987.Considered one of AustraliaÕs best winemakers, Kinzbrunner was awarded the Australian Winemaker of the Year by Gourmet Traveller Wine in 2003 as well as one of Decanter MagazineÕs top ten white winemakers in the world in 2006.
