Ferrari

Ferrari

Ferrari is an award-winning sparkling wine house in the Trentino region of northern Italy. It produces Metodo Classico wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir under the Trento DOC title. The company was formed in 1902 by Giulio Ferrari, with the intention of taking on the best wines of Champagne. In doing so, Ferrari became one of the first Italian estates to make substantial plantings of Chardonnay. Giulio Ferrari had no children, so in the 1950s, passed the company onto Bruno Lunelli, owner of a wine shop in Trento. Over the next couple of decades, Lunelli increased production from 9000 bottles a year to 100,000. The third generation of the Lunelli family runs the business today. Ferrari works with around 500 vine growing families in the mountains of Trentino, as well as farming some of its own vineyards. The wines are made in Italy's largest sparkling wine facility, which cellars millions of bottles in extensive underground cellars. The range includes Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noir and rosé styles. The Giulio Ferrari Collezione range is the estate's premium selection, although the Perlé range of vintage wines are some of Ferrari's most famous wines. Ferrari has had considerable international attention – in 2015, it won the Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championship, beating the Champagne houses Charles Heidsieck and Louis Roederer.
