Winemaker Blair Walter describes the wines of 2019 as ‘astonishing quality’. The 2019 Bannockburn Pinot Noir punches well above its Bannockburn ‘village’ designation, being a blend of Felton Road’s four primely situated vineyards: Cornish Point, Calvert, MacMuir and The Elms. 20% was retained as whole clusters with a moderately long maceration, and aging for just over a year in artisan Burgundian oak, 27% new. A serious wine with considerable definition and poise. Felton Road rank among the top 3 New Zealand producers, and in all honesty are usually number 1. In fact, they deserve a spot among the top New World producers, and this was proven when they were given the #12 spot in Wine Spectator Magazine's 2018 Top 100 Wines issue- an incredible achievement. The reason for the world-class quality of their wines is a mix of their unique 'terroir', but also because they are one of the leading names in sustainable, low intervention and biodynamic viticulture and winemaking.
