This Brunello is the heart of the estate’s production and its flagship wine since 1892. It is made with 100% Sangiovese grapes from their best vineyards in Montalcino. Red berry and cherry, light citrusy tones, candied fruits. Well balanced and persistent. Good structure with an aftertaste marked by red berries, plums and cherry. Elegant and savoury. Such an impressive wine. Will need a few years in cellar.

Ripe plum and cherry aromas with dried flowers and spices. Some lavender and cedar, too. Full bodied, tight and chewy. Needs time to soften and come together.

The Fattoria dei Barbi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a extremely polished and precise expression that hits all the right buttons for those seeking a classic expression of Sangiovese. In appearance, the wine shows a bright ruby hue with brilliant garnet reflections. The bouquet is tempered and shy at first, but it opens quickly to reveal those characteristic aromas of wild berry, candied cherry, licorice and pressed blue flowers that are so beautifully tied to this mighty Tuscan grape. Some 149,000 bottles were released in January 2020.

Good brilliant red color. Wild aromas of red and darker berries, flint and violet. Juicy, herbal and firm, with precise red berry and mineral flavors. Closes bright and long, with mounting tannic bite. (ID) 93+

Cherry, dried mint and sage, cedar, tobacco, charcoal and cloves. Firm and quite deep in flavour, has some resonance and power, in with the more spicy and dried herb flavours, tannin has grip and silty texture, slight dried flower perfume comes through on a pretty long finish that’s a bit sticky with tannin. Quite muscular as at now, as you’d expect, but should lay on a bit more charm with bottle age.
