Shiraz

Shiraz is a red grape variety. It is the most widely planted variety in Australia and helped put it on the wine map. It is an adaptable grape that has distinctive regional characteristics from elegant, peppery cool climate styles to sweet and chocolatey (McLaren Vale), muscular, and ripe-fruited (Barossa), to savoury and rich (Hunter Valley). Shiraz was one of the first vine varieties to arrive in Australia in 1832 and is grown in most regions.

Online Tasting Pack - Drink Like A Bogan! Kaesler Bogan Release Tasting With Reid Bosward
    $179.00 per ticket
This pack contains a bottle of 3 different wines to be opened during an online tasting held on the 11th of June 2020. During the COVID-19 lockdown, we will be running a series of online, interactive tastings so you can still get to try wines while keeping safe, healthy and at home. Reid Bosward (or as we know him 'Boz') is one of the most likeable characters in a sea of affable winemakers found throughout the Barossa. He is a winemaking legend and has been the head winemaker of Kaesler wines (est 1893) for over 20 years. Boz is a true blue Aussie, and considers himself a Bogan to boot, so who better to talk us through the launch of two of his favourite wines, the 2018 Bogan and WOMS (Weapon of Mass Seduction). Boz has also given us access to some 2014 vintage, which is looking exceptional now, and only for participants in this online event to try! This tasting will be done completely online, and questions are definitely encouraged. You can use your phone or laptop, you do not need a camera or microphone to take part.

Online Tasting Pack - Head Wines Tasting With Alex Head Thursday 8Th October 6.30Pm Aest
    $134.99 per ticket
This pack contains a bottle of 3 different wines to be opened during an online tasting held on Thursday the 8th of October 2020 at 6.30pm AEST. Alex Head is a finalist in the prestigious Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine Winemaker of the Year awards. This has been a long time coming in our opinion, as Alex has always beena go-to producer for exceptional quality wines that punch well above their price point. Alex has received rave reviews for his wines in the past few years, and each wine tasted in this event has received a minimum 95 points in the most recent release of James Halliday's Wine Companion. Legend has it that Count Maugiron, who owned Côte-Rôtie, had two beautiful daughters — one blonde, the other, brunette. When he retired, he passed on the light south-west slopes to his blonde daughter and the dark north-east slopes to his brunette daughter. And, as the legend goes, this is how those slopes came to be known as “Côte Blonde” and “Côte Brune”. Like the count’s daughters, these wines are all elegance, balance and complexity — full of the character of their origins. This story is the start of Alex's passion for making wines, and in this tasting, you will get to try his amazing "Blonde" and "Brunette" wines side by side.

Online Tasting Pack - Yangarra Tasting With Winemaker Peter Fraser
    $139.00 per ticket
This pack contains a bottle of 3 different wines to be opened during an online tasting held on the 25th of June 2020. During the COVID-19 lockdown, we will be running a series of online, interactive tastings so you can still get to try wines while keeping safe, healthy and at home. Peter Fraser is a pioneer in Organics and Biodynamics in South Australia's McLaren Vale, where he has been Winemaker since the year 2000. Peter was named 2016 Winemaker of the Year by James Halliday's Wine Companion, as well as a Finalist in the Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine “Winemaker of the Year” in 2017. Peter almost single-handedly put Organic and Biodynamic winemaking in the mainstream, and is consistently in the conversation of Australia's best winemakers, and has helped put the McLaren Vale on the map for high quality Old Vine Shiraz and Grenache. At this online event, Peter will taste with us through some of his most popular wines to give us a snapshot of the Yangarra Vineyards, the Old Vine material he uses, his Bodynamic methodology, as well as the remarkable 2018 vintage. This tasting will be done completely online, and questions are definitely encouraged. You can use your phone or laptop, you do not need a camera or microphone to take part.

Shiraz is a red grape variety. It is the most widely planted variety in Australia and helped put it on the wine map. It is an adaptable grape that has distinctly regional characteristics from elegant, peppery cool climate styles to sweet and chocolatey (McLaren Vale), muscular, and ripe-fruited (Barossa), to savoury and rich (Hunter Valley). Shiraz was one of the first vine varieties to arrive in Australia in 1832 and is grown in most regions. However, its home is in the Barossa Valley where old vines date back to the 1860s.

The classic, truly Australian blend is Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, but it is also blended with Grenache and Mourvedre (GSM) in warmer climates. In recent years it is increasingly being blended with Viognier to create the Shiraz/Viognier blend.

Shiraz's home is in the Northern Rhône's, Hermitage, Cote Rôtie and Cornas, in France. It is now also grown extensively in the Southern Rhône where it is blended with Grenache and Mourvèdre to produce the great red wines of Châteauneuf du Pape and Gigondas amongst others.
