On this trip we're visiting one of Australia's first wine regions, the McLaren Vale. Known for it's warm, sunny climate and red clay soils, the McLaren Vale is a hotbed of activity in the modern Australian wine landscape. Several producers are experimenting with alternative varieties and viticultural methods, making this one of the homes of Organic and Susutainable farming in the country. On this trip we'll visit one of the biggest names in Organic viticulture, Yangarra Estate. Peter Fraser, head winemaker won Winemaker of the year in the 2016 edition of James Halliday's Wine Companion. His stunning 'High Sands' Grenache also just won 'Best Wine' in the 2020 edition of the same award- strength to strength is a bit of an understatement! Next we will visit Hickinbotham. Since its establishment in 1971, the Hickinbotham vineyard has become a part of Australia's wine heritage, supplying fruit to produce many of Australia's greatest wines including Penfolds Grange and Astralis. Hickinbotham now makes some of Australia's most awarded wines, and is taking on the best wines in the world. We'll spend an afternoon getting to know why that's the case! Meet the MakerMeet The Maker Nick Mills Rippon 23Rd October 2019 6.30Pm$48.99 per ticketUnited Cellars - Level 2 - 100 William Street, 2011 WoolloomoolooFor over a century the Mills family has farmed a small patch of earth on the banks of Lake Wanaka, right in the northern-most section of Central Otago, New Zealand. Nick Mills is the fourth generation of his family to walk the rows of Rippon. He and his family now farm the site according to biodynamic principals, and his wines have well and truly achieved cult status, selling out within hours every year. "Mills’s wines from one of the most dramatically-sited, cool climate vineyards in the world, are consistently the most evocative of any that I have come across from New Zealand..." - Joshua Greene (Wine & Spirits) We are so pleased to host Nick for one evening tasting of his wines. If you already know Rippon, you'll know how much of a rare treat this will be, and for those looking to dig deeper into their passion for Pinot Noir, this is a chance to meet one of the most revered producers of this fickle variety. Meet the MakerNebbiolo Masterclass With A Master Of Wine 24 October 2019 6.30Pm$99.00 per ticketUnited Cellars - Level 2 - 100 William Street, 2011 WoolloomoolooNebbiolo has proven itself over the past few years as one of the most intriguing and beguiling grape varieties available. Often referred to as Italy's Burgundy, the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco (as well as several cheaper wines from the surrounding hillsides!) have captured the globe's attention, creating a fascination, and in some cases obsession very similar to those who label themselves "Pinotphiles". At this event we will be talking and tasting through what all the fuss is about. We have a container of wine arriving from Italy full to the brim with Italian Nebbiolo of all flavours, qualities and price points, however we'll also rope in several local friends to show us how they have also been bitten by the Nebbiolo bug and what it looks like through a New World lens. Our host for the evening will be a man who has done all the hard work and study to attain the coveted Master of Wine title, Mr Alistair Cooper MW. Alistair is visiting from England, and has a borderline obsession with Nebbiolo, so is the perfect person to go deep into what makes this variety so very special.Read More -

Tuesday TutorialsTuesday Tutorials: Art Of Blending - 6 October 2020 6.30Pm$39.00 per ticketUnited Cellars - Level 7 - 140 William Street, 2011 WoolloomoolooHANDS ON TASTING! This month, we'll discuss the art of blending. Throughout the history of wine, grapes have been blended for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's a finance issue, other times the blend is significantly better than each individual part. We'll take you back to the origins of blending wine in Georgia where they blend several hundred varieties together! We'll talk about the often controversial blending of red & white grapes, & go into the concept of 'less is more'. We'll be having a bit of fun blending our own wines to see what a difference blending can make, & that sometimes blending wine can be the most difficult (& important!) part of winemaking. It's back! Due to popular demand, 2020 sees the return of Tuesday Tutorial series of wine events. Through 2019 we shared stories & learnt so much about how wine is made & why it tastes like it does, & we're looking forward to making 2020 even bigger & better. So, join us for the first Tuesday of the month for Tuesday Tutorials- Come & join us for a drink!Read More -

Tuesday TutorialsTuesday Tutorials: October Oranges – 4 October 2022 6:30pm$79.00 per ticketLevel 7 - 140 William Street, 2011 WoolloomoolooNot red. Not white. Not rosé. At this colourful Tuesday Tutorial, we’re talking orange wines. Essentially, orange wines are white wines that are made as though they are red wines. These are wines whose grapes spend a certain amount of time in contact with their skins. The results are wines that boast not only a carrot-coloured hue, but also more tannin and more intensity on the nose and palate.
Join your United Cellars host at our on-site Tasting Room in Sydney’s Woolloomooloo (140 William Street) at 6:30pm on Tuesday 4 October 2022. He’ll talk terroir and grape variety for orange wines – and why they’re important – as well as the hallmarks of these bright styles, such as approachability and food-friendliness, freshness, texture, and, in some cases, oxidative influence. Plus, you’ll get to taste a superb range of examples.
United Cellars Tuesday Tutorials take place on the first Tuesday of every month in the Tasting Room of our Woolloomooloo headquarters. On these relaxed, informal evenings, we share the stories behind the regions, the varietals, the wines, and the winemakers. What’s more, we enjoy some delicious wines – carefully curated from our United Cellars stock. These nights are about enjoying great wine in great company, from the newly wine-curious to vino aficionados. Plus, no two Tuesday Tutorials are ever the same, so you can keep coming back! If you like wine as much as we do, be sure to add these drink dates to your diary!
