"It rarely happens this way but as far as 1998 is concerned, virtually all Australian wine regions had the opportunity to produce their best wine." - Decanter Magazine Dubbed by James Halliday as the "Vintage of the Century", 1998 is held in reverence throughout the Australian Wine Landscape. A vintage that perfectly marries the sheer concentration of 1990 with the finesse and purity of 1994. 24 years on United Cellars have secured an exceptional collection 1998 vintage wines. We will be comparing and constrasting some of the star performers and some long forgotten heroes, in a bespoke dinner at Chophouse, 25 Bligh St, Sydney NSW 2000 on the 18th of August 2022. Spaces are extremely limited so please make sure you secure your seat immediately. Some of the estates we will be comparing and contrasting include: Cullen, Penfolds, Seppelt, Rousemount, Mt Langi and more.

As the saying goes, 'Cabernet is King.' All across the world, Cabernet ignites a passion in wine aficionados & casual drinkers alike. It's structural tannins, driving acidity & delicious blend of herb & black fruit flavours set a fire in drinkers & winemakers alike. Cabernet has an amazing ability to show its own unique 'Cabernet-ness', but at the same time, it is able to adapt to its environment & will always reflect "terrior". This soirée will be coming to Brisbane on July 30th with a showcase of wines based on Cabernet (both Sauvignon & Franc), but also including several of its blending companions. This tasting series will showcase wines from regions famous for their Cabernet Sauvignon in Australia such as Coonawarra, Clare Valley, Margaret River & Yarra Valley, however you'll also get the chance to travel further afield to try wines from Bordeaux & the Napa Valley just to name a few. Not only will this be an entertaining & informative evening, but you’ll also get to experience 12 fantastic wines paired skilfully to four courses by the team at Blackbird Bar and Grill. This will be exceptional event so don’t miss out. With our previous evenings selling out fast, you’ll need to get in early to secure a ticket. Full wine selection to be announced closer to the date.

EXTREMELY LIMITED TICKETS! On Thursday the 9th of July 2020, United Cellars will be popping the tops on 12 wines to showcase the breadth & depth of everything the Rhone Valley has to offer! The Rhône Valley is generally divided into two sub-regions with distinct vinicultural traditions, the Northern Rhône & the Southern Rhône. The northern sub-region produces red wines from the Syrah grape, sometimes blended with white wine grapes, & white wines from Marsanne, Roussanne & Viognier grapes. The southern sub-region produces an array of red, white & rosé wines, often blends Based around Grenache, Syrah & Mourvedre (what we call in Australia a GSM blend) such as in famous regions such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape. We'll take a tour across the whole Rhône Valley, from North to South but also to some smaller communes often overshadowed by the big names. This region is known for its extreme landscape & high mountains- indeed this is a section famous for its inclusion in the Tour de France. The cyclists will be riding through this area as we open the bottles at this event, so we'll get a great view of where these wines come from! This will be a spectacular tasting, & tickets are strictly limited due to the scarcity of some of these wines, so make sure you grab your tickets!

This month, we look into the world of Chenin Blanc – one of the most underrated, fascinating wines in the world. This spectacular variety comes in many styles around the globe, from still to sparkling and from bone-dry to well-balanced dessert wine styles. In fact, before Chardonnay took the lead in the California wine regions in the 1970s, Chenin Blanc was the most widely planted white grape in state due to its versatility and heat resistance. Today, you can find more than 50% of the world’s Chenin Blanc in South Africa, and you’ll find it spread throughout many New World regions. In this tutorial, we look into the diverse styles this ‘chameleon grape’ offers. For the price of a ticket, you’ll taste many wines and wine styles with differing levels of age in a small group setting, enjoy some nibbles, and receive a $20 voucher to put towards any orders of six or more bottles on the night. So, join us for a drink on the first Tuesday of the month – it promises to be an entertaining, educational, and delicious evening!
