The letters DRC hold little meaning for most people, but for Burgundy fanatics, these three letters represent something well beyond the everyday; something significantly rare, significantly exclusive, almost unattainable. The reputation of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti goes well before it, the estate being widely considered among the world’s greatest producers. With allocations extremely limited and prices above $20,000, the opportunity to try one of the estate’s wines is the opportunity of a lifetime. For one special afternoon only, we’re offering you that very opportunity.

You are invited to join us at this premium Burgundy showcase on Friday 4th November 2022 in the United Cellars Tasting Room. Wines on pour will include those legendary producers Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and Maison Leroy/Domaine Leroy, along with other top estates. Wines will be paired with a specially-curated 5-course menu designed by Chef Tim Freitas.

Wines on pour include the following, and additional wines on the day:

    On Arrival
Beluga caviar, toasted brioche, chives, crème fraiche
    Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2011

Course 1 - Hiramasa kingfish tartare, spanner crab, marinated cucumber, gazpacho

Maison Leroy Mersault 1er Cru Les Genevrieres 2018

Grower Champagne. If you know, you know. It’s not about consistency year in, year out, blending multiple vintages and fruit from various vineyards across several subregions to achieve that ‘house style’ as the large Champagne houses do. Instead, it’s about terroir – a unique expression of site – and the defining features of a particular vintage. It’s no surprise then that Grower Champagne, where the people who grow the grapes also make the wine, is often referred to as ‘Artisan Champagne’.

The premium quality and individual nature of Grower Champagnes is increasingly attracting attention from consumers around the world. As we pursue everything that is boutique, bespoke, and pure, the intimate relationship that growers have with their land and their vines, and the way this expresses itself in the wines, is highly appealing.

United Cellars invites you to this intimate evening at L’Heritage Chowder Bay, where we will taste and explore the art form that is Grower Champagne. Wines on pour will include those of some of the better known estates such as Egly-Ouriet and Agrapart, but we will also discover the wines of some of the rising stars of the Grower Champagne community and hear their stories. These Champagnes are new to the Australian market and exclusive to United Cellars. With footage from the vineyards and insights from the winemakers themselves, this will be a very special experience and one you will remember.

Think you can trust your senses? Think you know your wines pretty well? Think again. United Cellars invites you to this spooky, creepy, and altogether a little bit ‘unhinged’ evening of wine in the darkness. Yes, there will be fine wine, but in this blind tasting your senses will be muddled and confused by the trickery of our hosts, a lovely welcoming team of zombies, witches and ghosts. Come along, bring your friends and test yourself! There’ll be four hand-selected premium wines presented to you in complete darkness, and another three wines presented to you in the light. Prizes, games and a menu of scary snacks, all at the United Cellars Tasting Room in Woolloomooloo. Come along dressed in your best Halloween costume and join the fun.

Not red. Not white. Not rosé. At this colourful Tuesday Tutorial, we’re talking orange wines. Essentially, orange wines are white wines that are made as though they are red wines. These are wines whose grapes spend a certain amount of time in contact with their skins. The results are wines that boast not only a carrot-coloured hue, but also more tannin and more intensity on the nose and palate.

Join United Cellars host and head buyer Mark Faber at our on-site Tasting Room in Sydney’s Woolloomooloo (140 William Street) at 6:30pm on Tuesday 4 October 2022. He’ll talk terroir and grape variety for orange wines – and why they’re important – as well as the hallmarks of these bright styles, such as approachability and food-friendliness, freshness, texture, and, in some cases, oxidative influence. Plus, you’ll get to taste a superb range of examples.

United Cellars Tuesday Tutorials take place on the first Tuesday of every month in the Tasting Room of our Woolloomooloo headquarters. On these relaxed, informal evenings, we share the stories behind the regions, the varietals, the wines, and the winemakers. What’s more, we enjoy some delicious wines – carefully curated from our United Cellars stock. These nights are about enjoying great wine in great company, from the newly wine-curious to vino aficionados. Plus, no two Tuesday Tutorials are ever the same, so you can keep coming back! If you like wine as much as we do, be sure to add these drink dates to your diary!

"It rarely happens this way but as far as 1998 is concerned, virtually all Australian wine regions had the opportunity to produce their best wine." - Decanter Magazine Dubbed by James Halliday as the "Vintage of the Century", 1998 is held in reverence throughout the Australian Wine Landscape. A vintage that perfectly marries the sheer concentration of 1990 with the finesse and purity of 1994. 24 years on United Cellars have secured an exceptional collection 1998 vintage wines. We will be comparing and constrasting some of the star performers and some long forgotten heroes, in a bespoke dinner at Chophouse, 25 Bligh St, Sydney NSW 2000 on the 18th of August 2022. Spaces are extremely limited so please make sure you secure your seat immediately. It's not every day you see a winery hit its quarter-century, but on Wednesday the 17th of June, you'll get to celebrate this special occasion with one of our favourite wineries, Bannockburn Vineyards. 25 kilometres northwest of Geelong along the Midland Highway, the Bannockburn Vineyards estate is located in the Moorabool Valley sub-region, just outside the township of Bannockburn. Since 1995, this estate has been creating exceptional wines built for ageing. At this special tasting, we will taste back through time, and celebrate 25 years of this Estate with wines from several different older vintages, as well as some younger ones. Matt Holmes commenced making the wines at Bannockburn Vineyards in 2015. He sees his role as a servant to the vineyard, growing season and fruit to produce wines representative of style and site. Above all, gentle inputs and minimal additions are his goal. In his words, “Well-nourished vines grown in a suitable spot, picked on the right day, transcribed as wine.” Previously, Matt had been making wine in the Okanagan wine region of British Columbia, Canada. During these 10 years he also gained a broad range of experience working additional vintages in the U.S., France, Italy, New Zealand as well as Australia.

Its structural tannins, driving acidity & delicious blend of herb & black fruit flavours set a fire in drinkers & winemakers alike. Cabernet has an amazing ability to show its own unique 'Cabernet-ness', but at the same time, it is able to adapt to its environment & will always reflect "terroir". This tasting series will showcase wines from regions famous for their Cabernet Sauvignon in Australia such as Coonawarra, Clare Valley, Margaret River & Yarra Valley, however, you'll also get the chance to travel further afield to try wines from Bordeaux & the Napa Valley just to name a few. With our previous evenings selling out quickly, you’ll need to get in early to secure your spot at this tasting! Wines will be presented in 4 brackets matched to courses in a sit-down dinner. Full wine list to be announced closer to the date.
