Distillerie Bertrand

Inheritors of a long family tradition of patience and expertise, The Bertrand Distillery still distils their fruit spirit just as Joseph Bertrand did in 1874: "seeking perfection through the love of a job well done".

Today, this continuous search for quality marks them out as one of the best Distillers in France. Every year their skills are put to the test by successfully taking part in the most prestigious national and international shows. This is how one small corner of Alsace becomes an ambassador of good French taste throughout the world. Bertrand renowned for their exceptional eaux-de-vie, or “water of life” in English, the tradition of distilling these delightful liquors are owed essentially to the region of Alsace.

This region has the benefit of fine soil and a good climate, hot summers with little rainfall, as well as being protected from the prevailing westerly winds by the Vosges mountains. The granite and volcanic sub-strata covered by very fertile alluvial soil is ideal for growing fruit trees. Around Uberach, where Bertrand can be found, nature is abundant and it is just a matter of choosing the right time to bring in the Williams Pears, Raspberries, Cherries, Quetsch and Mirabelle plums and all the others into our cellars. All of them scented fruit, ripe to perfection which, through the alchemy of the still, gives birth to wonderful eaux-de-vie. This process can take up to 12 kg of fruit to produce one litre of eau-de-vie. But with 25 gold medals in the last ten years, it’s obvious they sure know how to craft a delectable, fruity spirit.
