Clos Clare ‘Watervale’ Riesling 2015
Clos Clare

The Barry family bought this property in 1986 from Leo Buring in which the fruit from this vineyard went into making the benchmark Leonay wine. When the Warilto Homestead was sub-divided including a small 45 year old 5 acre parcel of the vineyard to Ian Saunders, clos Clare was born and is now proudly the wines of the Barry brothers.
The Hayes vineyard is situated in the Amaragh Valley north west of the Clare township and as planted in 1975. Originally dry bush grown vines they are now trellised and run with Bio-Dynamic practices since 2007.

This Riesling is the Clare Valley's signature variety and this is our ninth vintage from clos Clare's Riesling patch, adjoining the historic 'Florita' vineyard in Watervale.
Nose is chock-full of ginger, spice, lime curd, lime splice, custard cream, cracked wheat and hay.
Honey and curd in the mouth. It’s pithy and focused yet the acid is tempered by that bit of development and the textural element helps pull the wine across the palate rather than it being simply straight up and down.
