Château La Croix de Gay is managed by Alain Raynaud and Chantal Lebreton. The Lebreton family is an historic line of Pomerol winemakers that began their trade in 1772 but first arrived in the village way back in in 1477. The château benefits from a privileged site on the plateau of Pomerol, made up of 13 hectares of vines, mostly Merlot (80%) and a little Cabernet Franc. Pomerol is not a region known for value wines. Bargain-hunting wine lovers should take a good look at this beauty, which frequently produces one of the greatest-value wines of the Pomerol appellation. It combines an opulent, lush-styled Pomerol with good value. Lots of juicy black plum, liquorice, and earthy character are easily found here before ending in a plush, black cherry finish. Drink now, or over the next decade.
