A Grand Cru Classe of Saint-Emilion, Chateau Franc Mayne enjoys an exceptional location in the prestigious appellation. Owned by the Savare family since 2018, Chateau Franc Mayne is enjoying a great momentum of renewal. The property is beautifully represented by the signature style of its wines, which reveal a pure expression of the Saint-Emilion terroir. 100% Merlot. 2019 will undoubtedly be remembered at the property. In addition to being a great vintage ending in -9, 2019 also marked the conversion of the estate to organic farming and a continuous restructuring of the vineyard.

Decanter

Gorgeously rich, medium to full intensity in colour with plum fruit on the attack. This has extremely well judged balance between the exuberant fruit that Franc Mayne has as its signature and a more restrained supple frame in its tannins and lift. A really enjoyable wine, one of my favourites at this property. Winemaker Sophie Mage joined in 2018 from Frederic Engerer's Rhône estate Fortboneau. Thomas Duclos new consultant also since last year. A yield of 43hl/ha.

Barrel Sample. Made entirely from Merlot, this is rich in vibrant black fruits. Spice and plenty of dark tannins are there to backup to what is going to be a full-bodied wine for medium-term aging.

Antonio Galloni

The 2019 Franc Mayne is a voluptuous, racy Saint-Émilion. A rush of dark cherry, plum, leather, licorice, smoke, mint and sweet spice wraps around the palate as the 2019 shows off its alluring personality. The 2019 is big, bold and beautiful to the core.

The Wine Advocate

The 2019 Franc-Mayne is made from 100% Merlot harvested between September 19 and 24 at yields of 43 hectoliters per hectare. It is being aged 50% in new oak barrels and 50% in casks, amphorae and one-year-old barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color, it jumps from the glass with gregarious scents of raspberry pie, blackberry preserves and stewed plums with touches of chocolate box, camphor and crushed rocks with a waft of cumin seed. Medium to full-bodied, the palate practically quivers with energy, supported by firm, ripe, rounded tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long and mineral laced.
