Chateau Balestard La Tonnelle

Chateau Balestard La Tonnelle

Chateau Balestard la Tonnelle was celebrated as 'a divine nectar, which bears the name of Balestard' by the 15th-century poet Francois Villon. It is ranked as a grand cru classé and 'Tonnelle' was added to the name because of an old round tower on the estate, which today is mainly used for receptions. The estate comprises of about 26 acres, which are planted with 65 percent Merlot, 20 percent Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The wines are very reliable and are generally charaterized by solid colour and tannins, a full-bodied, muscular taste. Aromatic, fruity tones suggest black and red fruit; and dark notes of chocolate and truffle.
