The Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend has been made famous by Margaret River, Western Australia. The varieties match exceptionally well, with Sauvignon Blanc lending its aroma and acid, while Semillon gives the wine its structure. It is also made in the Riverina, where the blend is generally riper and fuller in style. The best examples from Australia show gooseberries with nettles and sweet herbs, citrus zest and crunchy acidity.
Originally from France's Bordeaux, it is used for White Graves and Sauternes. In Graves, Sauvignon Blanc tends to be the majority of the blend whereas Semillon is dominant in Sauternes.
