Caillard
Dr Chris Taylor and Andrew Caillard MW are the winemakers for this five-star winery. The letters after Andrew Caillard's name place him in one of the world's most exclusive groups. The letters stand for "Master of Wine" and less than 400 applicants have slaved tirelessly and passed the rigorous years of testing to acquire the title. Caillard has held this distinction since 1993. Finally, after a long and varied career in wine and with the support of his wife, Bobby, he has taken the final step of making his own wine.
Andrew has had a huge involvement in shaping Australia's fine wine agenda for over 25 years. He learnt while writing the background for the Penfolds The Rewards of Patience tastings that both Max Schubert and John Davoren had experimented with Mataro, and this is where his inspiration to make Mataro (and now Shiraz) came from.
Caillard produces two wines, the Caillard Mataro from 2008 and now the Caillard Shiraz from 2012, both produced from Barossa Valley fruit.
