ASH RIDGE 'PREMIUM' SYRAH 2016
Ash Ridge

If you make the trip up to the Bridge Pa triangle of Hawke's Bay, you'll find the winery of Ash Ridge. The set up is quite modest with no fancy buildings to boast about, but boy can they make a good wine. The Syrah varietal is the probably the strongest performer over at Ash Ridge where the growing conditions make for beautifully aromatic expressions of the variety.
The winery has two vineyards both located in the 'Bridge Pa Triangle' growing region. The soils in the area settled over 10,000 years ago when the ancient Ngaruroro River changed its course. When the river was diverted it left behind gravelly, arid, unfertile soils over which the vines are now planted. The exceptional composition of the soils combined with long summer days and cool nights helps Ash Ridge winemaker Lauren Swift maximise the flavours.
Ash Ridge's wines have picked up countless medals over the past few years on the New Zealand show judging circuit and consistently present a great value proposition for high-quality Hawke's Bay wines.
