Dottore (Doctor) Matteo Ascheri is not only the 5th generation owner and winemaker of his family estate (established 1880), he also runs a 4 star resort and traditional 'Osteria' (restaurant) next to the winery in Bra. In addition to this, Matteo is the head of the Consorzio di Barolo, which makes all decisions about the future of this unique and highly-regarded region.
The Ascheri Barolo is a blend of the family's 3 vineyards, and attempts to take the best from each expression.
Rich and complex bouquet of sweet spices, dried flowers, leather and undergrowth. Harmonious, well structured with elegant tannins and great balance and complexity.

Mark Faber
A blend of 3 vineyards. Cocoa nibs, smoke, black earth, hints of truffle and a bright Campari/blood orange lift through it all. Flavours of complex soy, salt and earthy spices. Searing blade of acidity balances the firm but not chalky or bitter tannins. Amazing levels of complexity and intensity. Balanced despite relative youth- pretty and brooding at the same time.

Wine Spectator
Delicate aromas of strawberry, cherry, rose, licorice and tar are effusive and complex. Supple and juicy, finishing with firm, balanced tannins. Picks up spice details on the mouthwatering finish. Best from 2022 through 2040.
