This New World plantation was Donald Hess' first ever investment in Argentina. The Hess Family Estate has long specialised in making premium wines in remarkable sites throughout the world, and marketing them in tandem with art, fine dining, and tourism.
Their low-yielding vineyards were the first thing to ever be planted in the arid region - even the Incas didn't till the soil. Where many saw a lifeless desert, Hess saw a versatile New World terroir waiting to be captured.
'Amalaya' means 'Hope for a miracle' in the native language, reflecting the intrepid spirit of the indigenous people of the Calchaqui Valley - and, indeed, of the incredible team of winemakers producing top quality wines at Bodegas Amalaya.
