Pirramimma was founded by Alexander Campbell Johnston in 1892 and has been owned and operated by the Johnston family ever since. Winemaking at Pirramimma has been a family affair for over 126 years and is now in the capable hands of Geoff Johnston, a winemaking graduate of Charles Sturt University, grandson of the winery’s founder.
The bouquet displays briary blackberry, violets, Morello Cherry and Kalamata olive with hints of subtle cedary oak and black plum. On the palate intense black cherry and boysenberry are complemented by hints of musk and liquorice, all enveloped in fine grained savoury French oak. The wine has a beautifully integrated seam of ripe tannin and a long sustained finish. Aerate extensively to drink now or will age gracefully with correct cellaring.

93"Honours founder Alexander Campbell Johnson, only made occasionally, and restricted to 650 dozen bottles. A blend of 63% from the Warhorse Block, 30% petit verdot and 7% merlot, with nothing said about the oak maturation. A no-holds-barred, dense and concentrated palate with black fruits in abundance, and chewy tannins spread by a trowel through the length of the palate. Needed just a touch of fining."

South Australia

If you're a fan of Riesling, Clare Valley is a great place to explore and for a Maritime climate not dissimilar to parts of the Italian coastline, seek out the wines from McLaren Vale.
