4 Kilos

4 Kilos

A Kilo is an old Spanish slang for a million pesetas (that would be 6,000 Euros in today’s money). The business was started by Francesc Grimalt and Sergio Caballero who chipped in 2 Kilos each, for 4 Kilos in total. This makes for a shoe-string budget operation. In 2007, they converted a former sheep farm into a small winery, where they were able to produce the crop for 4Kilos and their new project 12Volts. The vineyards do not belong to any particular D.O, so are spread across the north and south of Mallorca, Spain. The varieties that are grown are Callet, Cabernet, Sauvignon, French Fogoneu, Merlot, Monastrell and Shyra.
